Players

How many players for a Role-playing game?

RPG means role-playing game, a kind of game where a Game Master will tell a story and the Players will make their own choices. Everyone uses a system of rules often with dice, and a session last between 1 and 12 hours.

So if you don’t play a role-playing video game, you need to be at least two people, one player and the game master, to play a RPG.

But how many players is the best choice for a RPG? Can you play with only one player? As a game master, can you handle a lot of players, and is it still a RPG? Read more about How many players for a Role-playing game?

Spectral

Spectral: are you ready to fight Bose-Einstein condensates?

I watched this movie and it is good, not excellent but a good movie.

I liked the idea of a creature made of Bose-Einstein Condensate because it is new, and new things in science-fiction are not common nowadays. Not that the genre isn’t interesting, I love science-fiction, but a very new idea is good to see.

This is also a good action movie. There are good fights and battle scenes, big high-tech weapons, it’s a good entertainment. So a rather good Netflix movie. It is nice to see that science-fiction is now common, we can watch a lot of different movies with different ideas.

Spoil Alert: The spectrals are made of Bose-Einstein Condensate, a kind of quantum plasma matter. The ‘ghosts’ are linked to dead people locked in laboratories pods. So they are rather like quantum zombies 🙂 Read more about Spectral: are you ready to fight Bose-Einstein condensates?

Software to design

What software to design your RPG?

This article about software to design, is based upon my own experience as a non-professional creator of role-playing games and settings for some years.

It’s too bad that a lot of free stuff for RPGs don’t benefit of a nice design since it is easy to create something correct.

A bad design of your document will tire the reader and I think that when you share with others your creation, you want them to read it, not push it away because it is unreadable.

So I will share with you my point of view about some softwares I am using.

GM

Despotic or Anarchist GM?

A cornelian choice for a GM and/or an entire group, will we have a guiding or a flexible GM?

Complex game systems are obviously well-suited for a guiding GM, while easy systems are better for a flexible one who will prefer to improvise. By chance, Savage Worlds can handle both!

But what can you expect from both ways of playing and how can you customize the rules to play the way you like? Read more about Despotic or Anarchist GM?

Split

Split, cut, divided…

The Movie

Split is an amazing movie written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan and based upon the real story of Billy Milligan, a man who suffered from the dissociative identity disorder and sentenced to prison after the rape and murder of 3 students.

The main actor is James McAvoy and his performance is very excellent in this movie. It is surely hard to play so many and different characters but he succeeded in it, well done!

Of course this is a movie, so the mental disorder is amplified with nearly superhuman abilities for Kevin, the main character. But it is still interesting, a very realistic movie would have been boring.
